The holiday season is upon us. This is the case for those of us who live in or close to the Western world. Living in America was a culture shock for me circa 2010. Now that I have been here for 7 years, I have adjusted to the differences in culture. One thing that was not a shock to my system was the idea of Thanksgiving and gratitude.
Although Bermuda is not a U.S. territory. We are actually a British one. As a community, we do tend to celebrate some of the U.S traditions such as Thanksgiving. Over the years, I have found that there is true grace in being grateful for the blessings in your life. I have to be honest though, I have not always been the one to show gratitude.
I like to believe it is not because I am ungrateful but rather that I find myself “too busy” sometimes to give thanks. When I am overwhelmed by worry. I realise that I have not expressed gratitude as often as I would like. I also recognise I have not been as heartfelt as I would like.
In preparing for this new month, I thought it would be a great time for me to begin to reflect on this last year. One of the best ways to do that is to list off and talk about my blessings. Over the next 30 days, I will read and meditate over 30 bible verses. These verses will help focus my heart and my mind on gratitude.
My goal is to have a sincere attitude of gratitude that I can carry into the end of the year and beyond.
