Instagram’s “Follow Hashtag” Feature Will Level Up Your Social Media Feed

Instagram is by far my favourite social media platform. The emphasis this application places on visuals is inspiring! As a creative entrepreneur and social media manager, I LOVE IT. The popular photo-sharing app announced that now users can follow hashtags. I shared this news with the Terri Social Squad yesterday! As a content creator, social media networks are great places to find inspiration! With this latest feature, you can level up your news feed. You can also purge your following of unnecessary accounts.

3 Benefits To Following Hashtags on Instagram

  1. Stay Updated with Your Community: Using social media for your business is important in 2017. Every community has a set of niche specific hashtags that members use. Following that specific hashtag will give you an opportunity to engage many accounts. It will also keep your following at a healthy level.
  2. Purge Your Following: The ratio of Followers to Following is a vanity metric. It’s not one that you should stress about if you are using Instagram (or any social media platform) as a casual user. For Power Users and Businesses, it is a metric that you should be mindful of. It does play a role when new followers decide if they want to follow you or your brand online. If you followed an account because they posted content using a specific set of hashtags. Now you can make note of those hashtags, follow them and unfollow that account. Chances are you will see content that account has posted without having to follow them. Having a streamlined news feed is the goal!
  3. Discover New Accounts with Ease: When it comes to discovering new accounts the Explore page has been great at that. The algorithm works wonders to show you content relevant to the content you engage with. The new feature will make it easier for you to discover those new. It will also give your Explore page a greater variety of account types. You may not even use the explore feature as much because it will be right there in your feed.
