We are already half way finished with October! I don’t know about you but this month definitely crept up on me. It said let’s go, Terri, there are things we need to get done!
To be honest, there is so much that I want to get done in these last 3 months of 2016. A lot of which, I have wanted to get done all year round but for one reason or another did not.
Like many people, I love to plan. I have planners and notebooks and scrap paper for just about EVERYTHING! Sometimes that makes me to rigid. It leaves little room for flexibility. Other times it keeps me focused. It gives me a sense of purpose.
No matter which side of the planner spectrum you are on. You can 100% enjoy the rest of 2016 and make the most of it! I have come up with 5 tips that can help even the latest of last minute goal setters.
Tip #1: Get something on paper
All of those thoughts and ideas you have in your head are great! But you will not act on them if they remain in your mind forever. Chances are you will forget to say something to the person you love. You will forget to do that one thing you need to do by a certain date. And the list can go on and on.
Take time to jot down the things you want to get started before December 31, 2106.
Tip #2: Find something that takes you out of your comfort zone
Whether it is learning a new language. Taking classes to learn that instrument you played as a kid. Open up to someone close to you in a way that you have not in the past.
Whatever it is, now is the time to get uncomfortable with yourself or others around you.
Tip #3: Remember to take personal time for yourself
We can ALL get so caught up in the daily hustle and bustle. Work gets stressful. Our relationships get tested. We don’t know our left foot from our right when we put on our shoes in the morning. Or maybe that is just me.
Either way. We forget to take care of ourselves. Take a few minutes a day. Also, a few hours each week to reconnect with yourself. Whether it’s through meditation. Netflix & Chill. Journaling. Dancing in front of the mirror. (I may an army of 1 here again)
Do something that makes you fall in love with yourself.
Tip #4: Find someone a mentor and someone you can mentor
There is someone out there who is where you want to be. Also, there is someone coming behind you who wants to be where you are.
Identify these people and connect with them. Determine a frequency that works best for both of you and get together!
Talk about your personal goals. Your professional goals. Tell them how much their sports team sucks in comparison to yours. Take the time out to share your perspective and learn from their opinions.
It will amaze you how much you can learn about yourself just by talking to a like-minded individual.
Tip #5: Reconnect with those closest to you
Like the connection, you should have with yourself. Those around you care about you. They deserve the same type of effort and energy.
It is important to reconnect with your relatives and friends to reaffirm your relationship. We can create alternate realities to the one we are living. I have. I do. And I am working on that!
When people do not talk as much as they used to. They begin to wonder. Save your relationships by getting together with the ones you love. As a collective or on an individual basis. To remind them that you still love them. That you value your relationship with them. That you are just as committed to them as they are to you.
And if it is time for a relationship to end. Take the same approach to reconnecting. If for the last time. To let that person know your feelings. Take in their feelings and let time unwind the rest.
You can bet that ALL 5 of these tips are what I have started to put in place in my own life. I am still a work in progress. I have made many mistakes along the way. But I am hopeful that if only 1 tip helps you create the most amazing 4th quarter you have experience thus far. I win!
