A Year of Journaling: Entry 008

Love: A Four Letter Word That Has A Strong Meaning

It is ONLY Tuesday. By the time 5 o’clock rolls around I am tired. That is because I wake up between 4:30 and 5 in the morning. Which isn’t bad. I actually wake up because of my passions. Because of the things I love.I have some exciting projects I am working on. I am making meaningful connections every week. So, that is not a complaint. It is to say that by the time I get to do my evening journaling. It has been a long day.

Entry 008: Someone you love.

It’s not very often that I focus on the youngin’s in my life. I’m a 27-year-old young woman trying to navigate through life. I don’t have much mental space left after a 12-hour day. But, this prompt encouraged me to think about someone I love. I chose two someones. Aniyah. Anton-Luis.

First, Let’s Talk About Aniyah

Yesterday, Aniyah turned 10 years old! Double-digits are a big deal. I know you remember the year you turned 10. It was a special milestone.A few months after Aniyah was born. I spent the night with her mum. I wanted to help her out. Also, I was curious about motherhood. Let me tell you. Aniyah put me through it that evening.

Aniyah put me through it that evening.I couldn’t get the child to go back to sleep after giving her a bottle. Trying to burp her was a feat. I didn’t want to hit her back too hard. Swear. Aniyah had me up for another hour or 2!

Aniyah had me up for another hour or 2!Interesting enough. It was that sink or swim moment with Aniyah that caused me to fall in love with her. Outside of the fact that she is my relative, LOL.

Next, Let’s Talk About Anton-Luis

Now. A year ago. My little cousin Anton-Luis visited myself and my Mum in Atlanta. He was in town for about a week and some change. At that time. I was in the think of doing social media management for clients. Trying to create my amazing life was at the forefront of my mind.

He wanted to spend time with me. He said he knew I was busy. But, he missed me while he was down in Florida! TENDER MOMENT.

But, he said something to my Mum while he was in town. He wanted to spend time with me. He said he knew I was busy. But, he missed me while he was down in Florida! TENDER MOMENT.Without hesitation. I set aside time to hang out with him. After that, I made it a point to be intentional with him. To build my relationship with him. He only wanted my time. Not for me to buy him anything. Not for me to take him anywhere extravagant.

In Both Cases

I do not see either of them very often. It is a short trip to Bermuda when I try to carve out time to see my cousin Crystal and Aniyah (her daughter). Anton’s visit to me was the first time I had seen him in years.

I’ve learned that I can give love away for free and in full. It is quite easy to do that. The hard work comes in being intentional. Making an effort to connect with others. Taking constructive criticism to build relationships. Not giving up on someone because they seem to not be available for you.

Aniyah and Anton-Luis remind me that unconditional love requires no consistent action. You don’t have to express it daily for others to feel it. You have to be willing to open yourself up to receive that love. In turn you will give away!
