A Year of Journaling: Entry 005

Best Thing: Let's Talk About What Happened To Me This Week

Here we are once again! It’s the fifth entry in my Year of Journaling series. If you have stumbled upon this blog series at this point, you can catch up on the series here. Today, I am going to talk about the best thing!

This entry will focus on the best thing that happened to me this week. When I first read this prompt, I was like “my week isn’t over yet. What if my best thing hasn’t happened yet”.

Hello, negative self-talk. It has been a while, hasn’t it! Instead of falling into the trap. The trap that would have me sitting in a space of negativity. I chose to reflect on my week with intention. “There is the best thing that I can talk about”, I told myself this and now here we are!

Let’s jump into today’s post!

Entry 005: The best thing that happened to you this week.

Like most people, there are a lot of things that happen to me on a daily basis. I would not consider them all to be “the best thing” ever! But, they are great moments nonetheless.

For this week’s best thing I thought about what I value. At my church, we are in a series which speaks to what we really want. You can find the series here. Join us if you want to achieve what you REALLY want this year!

One of the things Any Stanley brought up in the series is we often mistake our wants with our values.

I wanted to find out what the best thing was that happened to me this week. So, I focused on what I value. Meaningful connections.

It’s no secret that people want to connect. We want to build relationships. We want others to connect with us. We want them to build our relationship as well.

Here’s The Best Thing That Happened To Me

Drumroll, please! The best thing that happened to me this week was the return of the #BGBchat on Twitter. Despite Twitter’s decline in the social media space. As a micro-blogging platform, it is the BEST option for hosting a chat conversation in real time.

The chat host was Candice Van Wye. She is the HBIC of Brown Girl Bloggers! I have been following the brand for a time online. But, for one reason or another. I never connected with the brand in a meaningful way.

Enter my vision board! This year one item I put on my vision board was a statement. “How to make friends and not alienate people”. At the time, I knew I was good at making friends. But, I had this problem where I would sometimes alienate people. Not from a place of dislike. It was more about self-care. I will touch on this in a later post!

Why was the #BGBchat the best thing that happened to me this?

It is simple. I value meaningful connections. During that chat, I interacted with some amazing brown girls who blog. A few of which I connected with on Twitter by following them. Also, I plan to collaborate with some of them this year to build my personal brands as well as theirs.

The first step to establishing a meaningful connection is showing up. I could have participated in the #BGBchat and answered the questions. Choosing not to reply to anyone else’s tweets. Choosing not to retweet their tweets to my followers.

But, it is important to show up for whatever it is you want in life. You’re not going to get the things you want by your belief in them alone. You need to be intentional in your thoughts as well as your actions.

We all know we can think and talk a good game. But are you acting on those thoughts and the conversations you have? Food for the thought as I close this entry!

Now. It is your turn! Let me know in the comment section below what is the best thing that happened to you this week!
