Humans have a deep desire to receive validation from outside sources. Whether it is justification for an outfit we put together. Or credit for the work we have completed on a project, there are many things we want people to pat us on the back for. But why? Why do we care so much about what others have to say about us?
The most obvious answer is that society made us this way. The society of our culture. The family norms we were taught. The school rules and regulations we had to follow. Whenever we did something right or “worthy” of praise, we received validation.
Celebrating life is something I learned to do on a daily basis. I have meek and mild mannerisms, which lend themselves to innocence. While being the life of the party on other occasions.
This makes for the perfect Gemini! Today is my born day, earth-strong, birthday, life anniversary, etc. While I am not one for elaborate pulp and circumstance on this day, I do take care to reflect on my previous year of life.
What happened since June 19, 2015 to June 18, 2016?
Happy April, Kool Kidd! You have made it through quarter one of 2016 and you have never looked better! You have accomplished so many great things in 3 months, that the remaining 9 months in 2016 should watch out for all the amazing things you have in store.
Personally, 2016 has been one of mixed emotions. I’m excited to be making an impact and positively influencing those around me through blogging and social media marketing but I am also exhausted by the work that is required by someone whom much is given to.
Many people ask me: “Terri, how do you do it? Do you have a clone? When are you going share your secrets with us, so we can be like you?“
Self-love is simply the regard for one’s own well-being and happiness. It is considered to be a desirable characteristic rather than a narcissistic one. I caution you to be sure you are on this self-love journey to wholly love yourself for you and not because it seems ‘trendy’ right now or the someone said something to you that made you feel less than.
It is important that you begin your journey with a mindset that believes in your own growth potential. We can get stuck sometimes in the thoughts that all that we are is all that we will ever be. Before you read on for the 10 ways you can show yourself love, I ask that you take a moment to ask yourself do I believe I can grow to love myself more or have I gotten a place of stagnation?
No matter your answer you should still read on, but I personally believe it is important to go within to honour your current mindset as a benchmark for your reflection at some point in the future!
It’s holiday season here in the United States of America as well as throughout the entire continent that is North America, i.e. Latin America and the Caribbean. I am sure there are other countries the world over that are getting into the holiday spirit if they celebrate this specific holiday. Alternatives such as Kwanzaa, Hanukkah and other holidays celebrated in other religions; people who partake in those celebrations can too be seen getting into the ‘spirit’. I myself do not really ‘get into the spirit’ of these holiday seasons as I’ve seen many other citizens, resident and visitors have recently in the USA.
Last week Friday I had the privilege of seeing mi dupz, Dré, perform live here in Atlanta, Georgia at Red Ultra Lounge. It was quite a fun event, to say the least. I have of late become a reggae concert-goer starting with seeing my boyfriends Christopher Martin & Khago perform then seeing the veteran and living legend, Capleton. It was only right that I go to support Dré locally here in Atlanta because it is only a matter of time before he is touring worldwide and this city will be a stop of many. It was a great experience to see Dré perform in such an intimate setting as he was eye-level with the crowd for much of his performance and yes you could find me right in the front of the crowd; rocking to the Dreggae musical vybz. To much of the audience’s surprise Dré had a guitarist provide the background for a few of his singles. I wished I could have known the lyrics to ALL of Dré’s music, but as you know I am a newer #teamDRÉ fan – so I am playing catch up when it comes to memorizing lyrics. The crowd response was very positive after Dré finished his performance and the night was kicked into overdrive as Shane Talon and Black Chiney provided the soundtrack for the rest of the evening.
